I get asked daily What is a #hashtag? So, I hope this helps some people.
A #hashtag (#)
This site defines a #hashtag as a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets. They are like tags on Flickr, only added inline to your post. You create a hashtag simply by prefixing a word with a hash symbol: #hashtag.
Although the use of # has not been officially accepted as a standard. Many social network users have began to use it.
The future of #hashtag (#)
It will only be a matter of time before you will start searching by #hashtags in search engines or any other service. What makes me excited about the future of hastags because it will allow a voice with a specific message the ability to snowball into loud message for a cause.
Personal use of #hashtags
I am starting to use #dms-help as my version of the Batman Signal . If you need my help type #dms-help
I encourage everyone to use it a #hashtag when posting on the internet. If you have a blog that has a tag field. I strongly suggest that you start putting # infront of your tags.
