Accident on the 118

Accidents are one of the many reasons I want to move closer to work. Currently I am faced with a long commute, a 1.5 hour drive, to and from work.

One stretch of highway I travel is the 118. The 118 is not only a freeway but it becomes a two lane highway, one lane each direction, through Moorpark and into Oxnard. I hate this road so much that I no longer take it when is dark. The idea that someone will fall asleep behind the wheel and hit me head on is too much for my imagination.

So, it was no surprise when I heard that a fatal accident happen yesterday. As the Ventura Star reported on their website with an article titled “Woman dies as car hits big rig near Moorpark” the driver had no place to go but head on into a semi truck.

Ironically I learned about this tragic incident through a txt message from a friend who actually was 3 vehicles behind the semi truck. He was also one of the first to be at the scene. What he expressed to me was that he felt helpless. All he could do and was stand and wait for someone to get the driver, who was trapped, out of the vehicle.

Situations like this always leaves two victims. In this case the family of Bertha Valencia and the driver of the semi truck Pedro Castro who will now have to deal with this for the rest of his life.

If anything just stop, think and make sure your family knows you love them as something like this can happen to you on your way to work.
